Craft&Design Selected Award Winners Exhibition
Ferrers Gallery April 15th - July 17th, 2011
This impressive exhibition is being held at the Ferrers Gallery which is situated in North West Leicestershire. The beautiful English countryside of Staunton Harold near Ashby-de-la-Zouch is the backdrop to the multi award winning Ferrers Gallery and the perfect setting for this creative celebration. The Gallery itself is a grade II listed building that was once a granary and is set in the courtyard of the Ferrers Centre for Arts and Crafts which is home to numerous craft workshops as well as a deli and tearoom. The gallery displays the work of British makers throughout the building’s three floors.
“As a gallery focused solely on showcasing British craftsmanship the Ferrers Gallery is delighted to be able to host the craft&design magazine Selected Award Winners Exhibition. The quality and talent of the craftsmanship on show is bound to draw an enthusiastic audience keen to embrace and celebrate British and Irish creativity”. Ally Thorne – Ferrers Gallery Manager
On display will be work by thirty four established British artists and makers; expect a dynamic and inspirational exhibition with each maker given the opportunity to showcase a selection of the very best of their work.
There will be contemporary furniture, dynamic pieces beautifully crafted from unusual and exciting woods and complementary materials. Jewellery works will be sculptural, fresh and inspiring and will feature a range from handmade glass beads to semi precious metals. Other metal work will highlight the key techniques of enamelling, coppersmithing, silversmithing and wire sculpting. Always enigmatic, glass and ceramics are always delightful and intriguing, the work on show is by leading makers within their field, each artists work is distinctive, highly skilled and widely acclaimed.
Adding individuality to the show will be mixed media pieces that boggle the mind as to process, material and technique. And finally, but equally impressive will be textiles - tactile pieces woven or felted by hand, plus sculptural delicately crafted works alongside useable and wearable hand made creations.

Ferrers Gallery is less than 40 minutes from Birmingham, Derby, Leicester or Nottingham and just 5 minutes from junction 13 of the M42 and 10 minutes from junction 21 of the M1. The Ferrers Centre for Arts and Crafts is signposted by brown tourism signs from the B587 between Melbourne and Lount.
